Quiz – Is your partner cheating?

It’s hard to know if someone is cheating on you. The signs of infidelity can be anywhere from really obvious lipstick-on-collar types, to more subtle behaviour changes. If you’re unsure if you partner is having an affair, take our quiz and see if the warning signs are there!

Answer the questions below and tally your responses. If you answer yes to any of them, you might have cause for concern, but the more you answer yes to, the more likely it is that your spouse or partner is cheating on you.

1) Have they taken a sudden interest in their appearance? (Yes/No)
A partner or spouse who previously was uninterested in their appearance suddenly taking great care in how they look could be doing it to look good for someone else. Things like her suddenly wearing more makeup than she used to, him buying/ wearing nice new clothes that he never used to bother with, or your partner trying very hard to lose weight, build muscle, workout in general. An increase in health consciousness isn’t always a sign of adultery, but if it seems suspiciously appearance conscious, it could be. Watch in particular for them getting really dressed up when they are going out without you.

2) Are they very secretive about their phone, computer, or other devices? (Yes/No)
If you notice that they keep hiding their phone or computer screen from you when you go past, it could be that they are hiding evidence of their affair. Cheating partners live in constant threat of being discovered, so the action of hiding their devices could become a reflex. In particular, if they hide their phone screen when they receive a text message, and get angry if you go near their phone or computer, it’s a sign they could be hiding an affair.

3) Have they changed their behaviour towards you (more romantic or aggressive)? (Yes/No)
A cheating partner will often find it difficult to maintain their normal relationship with you. It can take the form of either overcompensating to try to alleviate their guilt or trick you into thinking nothing’s wrong. In this way they might become uncharacteristically romantic, attentive and loving. This could just be a positive change, but it could also be a sign of infidelity. Also, they could take their frustration and guilt about the situation out on you. They could become distant, angry or aggressive. They could become more nagging and impatient with you.

4) Have you found them lying or keeping secrets from you? (Yes/No)
Usually, an affair will cause a series of smaller lies in order to cover up the bigger secret. A cheating spouse will have to tell many small lies to cover up their cheating behaviour. Things like lying about money they’ve spent, where they’ve been, apparently forgetting to do things or claiming they don’t have enough time. They might lie about new clothes, about being at work or about their reasons for why they can’t go places with you.

5) Do they go out more than they used to? (Yes/No)
A newly discovered social life can be a warning sign that your partner is cheating on you, especially if they have a new circle of friends. If your partner never seemed to go out much, and is suddenly going out for Friday night drinks with non-mutual friends all the time, that could be a sign that they are going out to have an affair.

6) Do they leave the room to take calls? (Yes/No)
If your partner is suddenly leaving the room to take calls, this could be a sign they are hiding an affair from you. They could just want to hide the fact that they are always talking to the same person, or they could even be arranging their next rendezvous. This kind of secretiveness around their calls, especially if it’s a new behaviour, is a big warning sign of adultery.

1 Yes – Maybe not
It may be early days, or it could just be natural behaviour. Take extra care to look for the behaviours described above. If more start to pop up, take action.

2 – 3 Yes – Maybe so
It’s hard to tell, the warning signs are there, but it’s very hard to be sure. What does your gut say? If it’s leaning towards an affair as the cause, you should trust that instinct. If you’re worried, start thinking about taking some steps to discover the truth. A private detective doing surveillance will uncover any secrets your partner is hiding and find out the truth for you.

4-5 Yes – Likely
There are some clear warning signs. Regardless of what you want to believe, it’s fairly likely that your partner is unfaithful, or at least doing something behind your back. You need to take action to find out the truth. A private investigator is your best bet to get the evidence you need to confront them.

6 Yes – Most likely
You have every reason now to suspect your partner is cheating on you. An affair is hard to keep hidden, and it’s clear from these warning signs that something is going on with your partner or spouse. You could confront them, but without proof the most likely thing is that they will deny it completely. A private detective is what you need now; get the evidence so you can confront them and leave them no-where to hide.
