How Cheaters Hide Their Tracks

Hey there, Steve here and welcome to this week’s private eye post. Today, I’m going to share with you how cheaters hide their tracks and by lifting the lid on some of their tactics we regularly uncover with our cheating spouse investigation services.

We’ll also take a look at the differences between men and women who are cheating, and how to spot if you may be a victim.

#1 Hiding How They “Stay In Touch”

Your partner has to be able to communicate with the person they’re having an affair with. My experience shows both men and women use second email addresses to stay in touch with their lovers – usually a free Gmail or Outlook address.

Both men and women will also store their fling’s number as an alias within the contacts on their phone.

It’s one of the many reasons cheaters become protective of their mobile device.

#2 Hiding Their “Fling”

Typically, I find that men keep their affairs completely secret. They never share details of their affair with anyone else.

Women are not so secret. Nearly half of all the women we catch cheating have told a friend. One of the reasons is so they can use that friend as a cover story to hide their tracks when they meet up with their lover.

#3 Hiding Their “Financials”

The financials are an area where men and women largely differ.

About 20% of the men who cheat have set up a second bank account for their “cheating expenditures.” Some even go to the extreme of setting up an apartment for their adulterous ways.

Women hardly ever do this — I believe this is because men still usually pay to “treat” the other woman in their life.

#4 Hiding The “Truth”

More than half the men we follow use work as their cover story.

A woman’s most popular excuse is an evening out with the girls. This is followed closely by women claiming they need some “me time”, such as a massage, spa treatment, or even something as simple as a shopping trip.

Women are also much more concerned with covering up their appearance post their affair activity. About 1 in 4 keep an “infidelity grab bag” of makeup, toothpaste, and perfume on them. Plus they’re more likely to keep a change of clothes ready to do, and her gym membership might just be an excuse so she has somewhere to shower in secret.

#5 Hiding Their “Location”

All cheaters need somewhere to “do the dirty.” Here many cheaters simply are not that imaginative—cheap hotels are common.

Even worse, we often discover cheats use their marital home and bed for their adulterous trysts. So, if you spend time away on business trips or a holiday with the boys or girls, it’s a perfect time for your cheating partner to make use of the safety of home.

We have also frequently discovered cheats using disabled toilets, cars, and secluded spots outdoors for their physical activities.

Summary

Although perhaps none of these cover-up tactics are unsurprising, we’ve seen a huge uptick in the reasons we get called out to investigate the possibility of cheating.

We’re getting more clients who are checking the person they’re dating really is who they say they are. Online dating has made it much easier for people to have an affair in the first place. So, we’re often called in to investigate a new partner (is the man you recently met really single? Or does he have a wife and kids at home while he’s playing away with you?)

Until next week,
